Microfinance Program
We are in the process of collaborating with Malawi's Foreign Minister Joyce Banda to expand microfinance efforts in her home country of Malawi. Joyce has developed a successful microfinance strategy in collaboration with Nobel Peace Price winner Muhammad Yunus, whose model for Grameen microcredit laid the groundwork for similar success in Bangladesh.
The Malawi microfinance program has seen an astounding 100 percent repayment history since its inception, where the majority of individual loans are for less than $10 US, which provides sufficient resources for an individual spanning an entire season. The program includes a goat drive that gives mothers with HIV clean goat milk to feed their children, credit to fund fertilizer, seed and farm equipment, and also acts as a means to finance the development of markets to disburse their locally harvested produce. Please help JBF as we expand the microfinance program in Malawi and develop similar funds across Africa and Latin America.
