JBF/JBF Microfinance Program
We have collaborated with Malawi’s Foreign Minister Joyce Banda to expand microfinance efforts in her home country of Malawi. Joyce has developed a successful microfinance strategy in collaboration with Nobel Peace Price winner Muhammad Yunus, whose model for Grameen microcredit laid the groundwork for similar success in Bangladesh. The Microfinance fund and was initiated on November 29th, 2008.
The Malawi microfinance program has seen an astounding 100 percent repayment history since its inception, where the majority of individual loans are for less than $10 US, which provides sufficient resources for an individual spanning an entire season. The program includes a goat drive that gives mothers with HIV clean goat milk to feed their children, credit to fund fertilizer, seed and farm equipment, and also acts as a means to finance the development of markets to disburse their locally harvested produce.
Please help JBF as we expand the microfinance program in Malawi and develop similar funds across Africa, Southeast Asia and Latin America.
Partnership to Protect Children (PPC)
Child maltreatment – from sexual abuse, physical abuse, and neglect, to emotional abuse and slavery – causes significant trauma to children and can lead to long-term medical and mental health problems. The roots of child maltreatment are many; however, when professionals from all sectors of society come together – medical, mental health, police, the courts, schools, government, and the community – they can form a partnership to protect children which is truly effective and reaps benefits not just for children, but for the society as a whole.
With support from the Jack Brewer Foundation, the Partnership to Protect Children, founded by Dr. Aaron Miller, is working to bring professionals from various agencies together to help improve how children are cared for when there is a concern of child maltreatment. The program will be implement in Africa during the JBF Trip to Africa in March of 2008.
